Thank you for volunteering to water the gardens (sign up here). The good news is that our Garden Committee has made this super easy, as most of the gardens are watered via soaker hoses and sprinklers that are set up on timers. On your week, you’ll mostly need to fill tree bags/containers and water a couple of plants out of the sprinklers’ reach.
Please bring gloves and a trash bag in case there is some debris to clean up. There hasn’t been too much, but passersby traffic (or temporary residents), garbage tends to generate stray cups, etc. (You’ll appreciate not having to water w/ trash all around).
Best times to do this is in the evenings (at least twice in your week),
Strategy: Currently the process that has worked best is:
Along G St, close to 3rd…
- Turn on the water source connected to the manual hose at the splitter and at the hose.
- Fill the tree bags in the garden along 3rd St.
- Remember to turn of the water and put away the hose
.
Along the Front/Center of the school….
- On the main timer, push manual, ensure the on/off lever is raised (on).
- Turn on the water source on the handle of the (pink and green connected) hose.
- Fill the tree bags (or plastic containers, depending on tree) along the front of the school.
- Water the ornamental gardens at the entrance of the school sidewalk.
- Fill the tree container on the tree closest to the school (on the right, as you’re walking towards the school front entrance).
- Water the planters behind the tree.
- Remember to turn of the water and put away the hose
.
Along G St, close to 2nd…
- Turn on the water source connected to the manual hose at the splitter. Change the timer on the hose to ‘NOW’…. note you’ll need to change it back to ’12 hrs’ once you’re done.
- Follow the hose to the manual hose, which is stored in the garden enclosed in the wire fenced off section closes to 2nd St.
- Turn on the water at the splitter connected to the hose.
- Fill the tree bags/containers along G St (closest to 2nd).
- Remember to turn of the water and put away the hose
.
And that’s it! Takes about 30 mins. Not all tree bags/containers will need to be filled every time. Just check them out.
Good Luck!

Hi,
How is the watering going? Any changes to the instructions that I should be aware of?
