History

The core educational framework of Capitol Hill Montessori at Logan Education Campus is the 100-year old, evidence-based Montessori approach.
Over 25 years ago, Capitol Hill Montessori began as a private school program in the District of Columbia. Its founders came to believe that this extraordinary educational approach should be available to children in the public schools as well. In 1990, those founders proposed to DCPS that the private school program become a public Montessori program within the Watkins Elementary School. Their efforts became a reality and planted the seeds for our school today.

The success of the Watkins Montessori program attracted more and more families to apply to enroll their children. Clearly, the program was outgrowing the space at Watkins School. In fall, 2011, we opened Capitol Hill Montessori at Logan, the first and only dedicated Montessori school within DCPS. We are 100% out of boundary, drawing students from every ward in the District of Columbia.

Capitol Hill Montessori at Logan Education Campus has thrived. Our school began at the CHML building as a PS3 through 5th grade program. Sixth, seventh, and eight grades were added in each of the following years.  Our current PS3 through 8th grade Capitol Hill Montessori at Logan Education Campus has become a premiere education campus in the District of Columbia.
