The PTSO needs your support to deliver for our school.

The easiest and most impactful action you can take is to become a monthly donor through PayPal. If only 100 families commit to donating $25 per month for the calendar year, that’s $30,000 raised, which is almost half of our annual goal!  Your contributions contribute to purchasing classroom materials, supporting professional development, and offering resources for digital learning, science, music, field trips, and theatre arts programs—areas where DCPS funding falls short.  Here are a few of the ways your investment helps our students:

  • Teacher support & Classroom supplies: historically, the PTSO have been able to provide each teacher with $1,000-1,500 per school year to purchase supplies and materials for their classrooms. For new teachers, we were able to increase this support so they could set up their classrooms. In 2023, we are only able to afford $250 for each teacher, regardless of tenure.

  • School Events: PTSO generously covers the cost of hosting many, if not all, of our community events during the school year from the Back to School Picnic, to Fall Harvest Festival, to Teacher Appreciation Week, to Field Trips, to Field Day and Graduation. Not only are there expenses related to renting bounce houses and providing other activities and decorations, we also pay overtime costs for security and janitorial staff (which mount quickly when we do weekend events). Right now, we do not have the budget to host many of these events and must either significantly pare them down to cut costs or cancel them entirely.

  • Professional Development: our teachers deserve every opportunity to practice and better their skills and PD is an important part of teacher retention and recruitment. PTSO has always had a line item for funding professional development opportunities for our staff, including hosting an AMI Certification Course. Right now, we have no money to offer our incredible staff for professional development.

  • Family Assistance – Historically, we’ve been able to set aside an average of $8,000 a school year to help families in need of assistance. In 2023, we were unable to provide any monetary support for families in our community who could use a little help. This is one of the saddest realities of our budget that we’re trying to correct in 2024-25.
